As a part of City 3
Theater’s mission to develop new works in theatre, The
Summer Six Pack is an intensive exploration of the play
development process. Six playwrights interested in
developing a new theatrical work over the course of a
summer are selected and teamed with six directors skilled
in the development of new works. Initially the directors
will act as sounding boards for the playwrights, helping
the playwright with the conception of the work. Later,
actors will be cast to further the development of the work
and private readings will be held to allow the playwright
to hear their work in progress. Finally a two week
intensive rehearsal process will be followed by two
weekends of staged readings of each of the six new works
followed by moderated discussions with the audience in
which questions posed by the playwrights and directors are
addressed.
